Project Description
Observation of Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds or ‘quindes’ are the most characteristic group of Ecuador. In our country we have 124 species of the 320 in the entire world. Hummingbirds are the smallest birds, they can weigh 2 to 3 grams, the largest between 20 to 22 grams.
It has the ability to produce 78 wingbeats per second in small species and 22 wingbeats per second in larger species. The can do this thanks to extraordinary pectoral muscles that allow them to remain suspended in the air as long as they want. They can fly backwards as well.
